Water Quality

 INFORMATION EDUCATION | URBAN CONSERVATION | NATURAL AREA/ HABITAT | AGRICULTURAL CONSERVATION

Objective: To involve both the rural and urban landowners in an effective partnership to improve water quality, through the installation of conservation practices and wise land use decisions.
Goals and Actions
  • Encourage development and promote establishments of filter strips.
    • Use Federal, State and Local programs to implement filter strip establishment.
    • Provide technical and consultative assistance to program participants.
  • Promote water quality measures in the various watersheds.
    • Provide technical support to the Ottawa River Coalition to implement conservation practices
    • Encourage all landowners in respective watersheds within Allen County to participate in conservation enhancement programs when available.
    • Provide technical assistance to landowners on planning, installing and maintaining conservation practices
  • Continue development and work on joint county, 3 phase, Cranberry Creek Project
    • Work with Putnam Soil & Water Conservation District on project workload.
    • Provide technical assistance with reconstruction and development of project.
  • Review erosion and sediment portion of stormwater and erosion control plans.
    • Conduct site reviews to check for drainage patterns and wetlands.
    • Conduct plan reviews to investigate steps taken to control erosion problems.
    • Complete construction reviews and after construction checks.
