Frequently
asked questions:
I received a letter in the
mail! What
is this all about?
Landowners from both Allen
County and Hardin County have
requested that the Allen SWCD remove logs, leaning trees and other
debris from
the Hog Creek area. You
have been notified
of two meetings:
- August 10, 2005 – 10:30 AM – An
informational meeting to introduce the project and the different
agencies that will be working on it.
- September 14, 2005 – 10:30 AM –
A Preliminary Hearing to determine if there is public support for the
continuation of the project.
Both meetings will be held at the Show Arena on the Allen
County Fairgrounds.
But I’m nowhere
near where the work is being done? Why did
I get a letter?
Anyone who received a
letter is in the Hog Creek
Watershed. If your groundwater drains
into Hog Creek, even indirectly, you are a part of this watershed and
the work
done downstream will potentially have a positive impact on your
drainage.
Where will the work
be done?
If the project is
approved, the area designated for clean up begins in Section 12, Jackson
Township, Allen
County, Ohio at the Hardin-Allen County line and proceeds west crossing
under
Bentley Road, Pevee Road, Phillips Road and Swaney Road before joining
with the
Little Hog Creek. It is proposed to end
the project at this location.
Will I be assessed
a fee for this work?
If
the project is approved, everyone in the watershed will
share in the cost of the cleanup. The
minimum charge that is allowed by law is a one-time collection of
$25.00 per
parcel owned. In other words, if you
are a homeowner and own ½ acre of land in Ada, you will likely
pay a one time
fee of $25.00. If you are a farmer with
10 parcels of land, regardless of size, you will pay $25.00 per parcel
or
$250.00.
Will there be a
maintenance fee?
That has not
been determined at this time, but the maximum
that can be collected is 20% of the cost of the initial project. So if there is a maintenance fee, we expect
that it will be minimal.
I am
not able to attend the meetings.
Where can I find information about what went on?
We
will be posting information such as diagrams, meeting
minutes, press releases, etc. to this website as the project develops. You are also welcome to call Dan
Ellerbrock
at the Allen SWCD at 419-223-0400, ext 103 for more information.
I cannot attend the
meetings because I work. How can I voice
my opinion?
The best way for you to vice your opinion
is in
writing. You can send a letter to
